Humble Beginnings
Keno is a lottery-style game that originated in China during the Han Dynasty (between 205 and 187 BC). The game was originally known as "baige piao," which translates to "white pigeon ticket." In its earliest form, the game used homing pigeons to deliver the winning numbers from larger cities to smaller towns and villages. Over time, the game evolved, and it became known as keno.
Keno was introduced to the United States by Chinese immigrants during the 1800s and quickly gained popularity in American casinos. Today, keno is enjoyed by people all over the world and is a staple in many land-based and online casinos.
